My name is Larry Backstrom. That’s me atop Steamboat Rock making radio contact with the Wenatchee Repeater. I love hiking and backpacking in the Cascades. The steeper the trail – the more I thrive on the challenge. The best part are all the interesting people I meet while hiking. I’m a CERT volunteer (Community Emergency Response Team) with an Amateur Radio endorsement. In early Fall, I volunteer with Snohomish County Search and Rescue working radio checkpoints at Maverick Saddle for the Plain 100 Ultra Marathon. This is one of the toughest foot races in the world right here in Plain! My hobbies besides hiking are HAM radio (N7ART), spelunking, mountain biking and horses. I do all this with my wife, Debbi LerMond (K7DAL).
